Ephemeral calm...

Life for the modern man has become much like a drop in a mighty river as it journeys from the gullies of the mountains to the vast expanse of the sea... Often we find ourselves tossed violently as we speed down rapids past rocks and waterfalls... and then there are times we drift lazily along past rich meadows and vibrant greens (by that I mean polluted drains, foul-smelling sewage and plastic trash... come on... we're in Malaysia... :S) under the Apollo's gentle blessings.

Kenneth Kuan Boon Keat, 25 years old, a whopping 83.6 kilos and a tummy that resembles the Burger King Whopper finds himself once again at the keyboard tapping away with an air of lethargy. His goal? To write something in his blog which he started barely a month ago... Boredom, dear reader, is a disease and while you will never find it chronicled in any of our respected medical texts, I stand convinced that in making that statement, I will never be proven wrong. Boredom has never killed anyone... (At least to my knowledge it hasn't) but there's a first for everything... so I write(type)... to avoid being first...

A picture paints a thousand words... unfortunately I have none to submit for your viewing pleasure. Happily though I say that while my camera has been idle recently, my life, like that drop of water, has not. Novels and tales paint poor pictures of life as they often dwell on explosive events and conveniently skip mundane moments. But we never complain for who would want to read a book of mundane moments? In spite of this... life still flows with never ending tenacity towards its end. And this clearly means that even while we're fungating in the humidity of our holidays... there are still things to look forward to... and still things to mourn for. Bad news first.

My mother's father is finally in the last stages of his terminal lung cancer... However, despite the sadness felt at this unavoidable loss, I find myself hoping that it will come to pass as quickly as possible. Ah Kong is a great man. Made of rusty nails and concrete. But for the last 2 years the dear old man has been fighting a never ending battle against squamous cell carcinoma of the lung and the horrific side effects brought about by its treatments... I've never seen Hell, but minus the flames and it's probably what chemotherapy looks like. It has to end... I WANT it to end... the pain, the suffering and his miserable imprisonment in that dying jail which is his mortal body... Do I appear inhumane? That's a matter of perspective I guess. Is it right for me to wish his death hastened? Is it animalistic to be so cold blooded about the death of a loved one who's been there all your life? I don't know... and I don't care... I will miss him greatly... but I want it to end.

Do you really believe that does we love truly leave us when they die? I think not. I believe that so long as we remember who they were, what they meant to us, and live such that they smile down with pride from the Heavens above... then they will live on... in us... with us...

On a lighter but also saddenning note, a very good friend of mine will be leaving for distant shores in search of a different life. You know who you are and how much you mean to me. You weren't here for very long... barely half a year. But in the time that has passed you have become a very good friend and one whose company I truly enjoy. But despite feeling down about your departure I can't help but feel terribly happy for you. You're about to embark on an amazing adventure and I strongly urge you to give it a chance. Experience everything there is to experience and know that it does not matter how far you go or how long you're gone. Home is not a place but the people and true friends ARE forever. So don't worry about never coming back :) You're not getting off that easy.

"Experience is not what happens to you. It's what you make of what happens to you."

Doing away with dark clouds, I now come to the silver lining. :D Unfortunately for you dear reader, I'm a person who enjoys dwelling on my never ending pursuit of happYness and as this particular piece of writing has been long enough, I will save my joys for another day when I do justice to them by devoting to them the amount of blood and sweat they deserve. I end with a promise of articles to come. Articles with promise of happy things and great events that are greatly anticipated with the dawn of the new year...

Forecasted articles...
1) Resolutions of 2010!
2) Heart of this two eyed man...
3) Return of the electivers...

It is with great anticipation I look to the end of this period of peace, this ephemeral calm. Many things have happened and I am grateful for the rest it has provided. But I'm now ready for new things, new challenges, and I can't wait to see what the new year will bring. So until my next article, dear reader, enjoy the rest of 2009 and roll out the red carpet for 2010!!! :D
